Must-Watch Holiday Movies Your Entire Family Will Love
December is the perfect time to come together with loved ones and celebrate our favorite holiday (and movie/movies) traditions.
I know every family has their own unique winter customs, but for me and my kids, nothing beats snuggling up on the couch with hot cocoa, our favorite snacks, and a cozy blanket while we watch holiday movies together.
There’s just something about the warmth of being together, the aroma of hot cocoa, and the excitement of seeing familiar characters on screen that makes the holidays magical.
Of course, there are tons of great holiday-themed films that bring excitement, joy, and a bit of magic into our home each year. But with so many streaming services to choose from, it can be hard to find the right movie for our family to enjoy on these cold winter nights.
Luckily, I’ve got some great options that I’m excited to share with you today.
Whether you’re a fan of classic tales or new favorites, there’s something here for everyone. No matter how old you are, Christmas movies have a way of getting everyone into the holiday spirit.
The movies I’ve curated are sure to be a hit with your whole family. Each one offers something special that will bring joy and warmth into your home.
My Family’s Favorite Holiday Movies:
Our family’s Christmas movie list has evolved over the years, especially as my kids have gotten older.
But some movies remain timeless, and I’ve made sure that everyone can enjoy the selections on this list, no matter how young or old they are!
Home Alone 1 & 2
Home Alone is a classic in our house that we NEVER miss during Christmas. These hilarious and heartwarming films follow the mischievous Kevin McCallister as he outsmarts a pair of ridiculous burglars.
This is definitely one of our family’s favorite holiday movies to watch! That’s why I’ve added it to this list first.
Packed with great comedic moments, clever pranks, and a fun storyline, everyone is sure to enjoy this holiday film. I recommend watching both *Home Alone* movies to keep your kids entertained for hours! Home Alone 1 & 2 can be found streaming on Disney Plus.
The Polar Express
Next on our list is *The Polar Express*. This magical animated film takes viewers on an enchanting adventure to the North Pole.
Based on the beloved book by Chris Van Allsburg, this story follows a young boy who embarks on a life-changing train ride to rediscover the meaning of Christmas.
In my opinion, the stunning visuals and beautiful message of *The Polar Express* make it a must-watch for every family. It’s one of those movies that truly captures the wonder and magic of the season. Right now, you can find it streaming on HBO Max.
A Christmas Story
Although this movie is on the older side, I highly recommend watching *A Christmas Story* with your kids! It’s a nostalgic trip back to those days when all you wanted was the perfect present from Santa Claus.
Set in the 1940s, the movie centers around Ralphie Parker’s quest to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. He has to overcome bullies, his grumpy dad, and other childhood obstacles.
With its memorable characters, humorous scenes, and iconic moments, *A Christmas Story* has become one of our go-to holiday movies. It’s not streaming for free at the moment, but you can rent it on Amazon Prime for under five dollars.
Jingle Jangle
If you’re looking for a unique and diverse holiday film, *Jingle Jangle* should definitely be on your watchlist!
This Netflix original musical tells the story of legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle, who rediscovers the magic of creativity and belief with his granddaughter.
With its unique visuals, catchy music, and A-list cast, *Jingle Jangle* is sure to be a family favorite for years to come. Its heartwarming story really captured my kids’ attention, and I loved the positive themes and lessons it offered.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
*How the Grinch Stole Christmas* is a timeless film that really shows us the true meaning of the holidays. There are two versions of this film available—the animated version from 1966 and the live-action adaptation starring Jim Carrey.
Both films are great for kids, but the live-action movie holds a special place in my heart.
No matter which version of the film you watch, you’re in for a treat! *How the Grinch Stole Christmas* is a great way to teach your family the power of love, forgiveness, and community. You can find the live-action Grinch on HBO Max.
The 1966 cartoon is streaming on Hulu, and there’s a new animated Grinch film on Amazon Prime that’s also a lot of fun!
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The final movie I’ve included on this list is *A Charlie Brown Christmas*. There are so many timeless holiday movies to choose from, but I think this one really captures the essence of Christmas and everything our family loves about this season. We make sure to watch this film every year with our kids.
This animated movie is on the older side, but you can’t go wrong with the Peanuts. Currently, it’s streaming on Apple TV Plus.
